~ First Love ~

I’m sure we can all remember our "first love." Maybe it was in grade school. He was sitting two rows across and 3 desks behind you. He threw paper wads at you when the teacher wasn’t looking, and chased you with a garter snake during recess.

She wrote notes to her girlfriend during class, "Mary, tell Tommy to tell Jimmy that I like him, but don’t tell him I told you to say that." You knew she had told Mary to tell Tommy to tell you that she liked you, and you were glad that she did because you knew you wouldn't have been able to make that first move.

"They say for every boy and girl
There's just one love in this whole world
And I know I've found mine.
The heavenly touch of your embrace
Tells me no one could take your place
Ever in my heart."

Or, maybe you casually walked by her house, hoping she would be outside; found out she wasn't, so whistled for her to come out, and she did!

You might have walked over to a park with him, and as you walked, he threw small rocks, or kicked a pop can because he didn’t know what to talk about.  But that was okay because he was nice, and cute too!  And then, maybe he picked a flower for you from the flower garden in the park - that flower right next to the sign that said, "It is Forbidden to Pick Flowers."

"Young love, first love
Filled with true devotion
Young love, our love
We share with deep emotion."

But then, maybe that first magical moment of meeting your "first love" happened when you were a teenager. You picked her up in your old ’49 Ford and you would "drag" main, up and down, back and forth, all night, listening and singing along with the music on the radio.  And, if you had enough money, you stopped for a hamburger and a coke before you took her home.

When he took you home, you parked in front of your house and talked, and maybe - a few kisses??? - until your father began blinking the porch light on and off which meant, "It's time to come in the house!"  Darn!

"Just one kiss from your sweet lips
Will tell me that your love is real
And I can feel that it's true.
We will vow to one another
There will never be another
Love for you or for me."

Or, maybe you took your "first love" to the prom, or to the homecoming game and dance, and you slow-danced all night long with your arms around her waist while she wrapped her arms around your neck.

He gave you his ring .  You were going steady!  You wore his ring on a chain around your neck, or you wrapped a roll of white tape around it so it would fit your finger.

"Young love, first love
Filled with true devotion
Young love, our love
We share with deep emotion."

And then, you might have gone to the drive-in movie with your "first love."  You had a coke and some popcorn until it was time for the movie to begin.  By then it was dark, and before you knew it, the bright lights came on and the movie was over.  You never saw the movie because the windows were so fogged up you couldn’t even see that big screen! - but you were happy, and you were in love.  He/she was your "first love," and what more could a teenager ask for?

"Young love, first love
Filled with true devotion
Young love, our love
We share with deep emotion."

Your "first love" experience may not have happened just the way I described it, but I’m sure you can recall the way it really did happen,  and hopefully, it will bring back some fond memories.

Happy Memories!
