Sassy feeling the warmth of the sun . .

 . . . and doing her favorite pas-time - sleeping
(but she had to take a peek at me to see what I was doing)

~ Sassy Cat ~

She came to me as a gift
From a mother cat who was a stray
She was a small kitten covered with fleas
And she got her very first bath that day.

A tiny young thing; she melted my heart
With her soft meow and gleaming big eyes
She was sassy from the start, and so was named
A brand new friend for me in disguise.

It didn't take her long to rule the house
To let me know she was in full control
To when she would sleep and when she would play
And when it was time to replenish the cat bowl.

She became my best friend, my buddy and pal
But never a lap cat, for this is not her style
And when she requires special attention from me
Her welcoming purr can make me smile.

All black less a white tuff on her chest
She keeps herself groomed and neatly clean
And at night she sleeps at the foot of my bed
On her very own quilt fit for a queen.

I don't know what I would do without her
For her companionship is where it's all at
She's always there to greet me at the door
My best friend and my buddy . . . Sassy Cat.

Sassy will be 6 years old in October of this year.  She first started out as a birthday gift to me a long time ago.  For my birthday one year, my daughters gave me a kitten, a litter box and 2 cats dishes.  The idea was that after my birthday we would go to a local pet store and get the kitten.  We did that, but when we got there, the pet store didn't have any kittens because they weren't in season . . . not in season??? I never knew there was a cat season.  It seems to me that when my kids were young we had a cat who had litters any (and many) times of the year.  But, I recently heard that kitten season is in the early spring, so maybe our cat didn't have as many litters as I thought she did.

Well, as a result I didn't get my kitten for my birthday, and eventually the kitten was forgotten.  So, in reality, all I got for my birthday that year was a litter box and 2 cat bowls!

But then, about 6 years ago, my daughter called me one day and told me to run warm water in the bathtub because she was coming over, and then she hung up.  I did as I was told and waited for her to come.  When she got there, she was carrying a cardboard box and inside the box was a little black kitten . . . loaded with fleas.

We put the little kitten in the bathtub, and the fleas began floating in the water. My daughter had picked up a bottle of flea shampoo and we gave the poor little thing a bath.

My daughter found Sassy near where she worked.  It seems there was a stray cat that had a litter of kittens, and one of the kittens was black.  Knowing I had wanted a black cat, my daughter waited until the kitten was ready to leave her mother and brought her home to me.  So, 6 years later, I finally had a little kitten to go along with my litter box and 2 cat bowls, and she has become an important part of my family.  I don't know what life would be without her.

After the music stops you can pet Sassy by running your mouse over her.  If you rub her chest, she will purr.
