Do you remember the
"good old days" . . . before TV
When we turned down the lights and settled ourselves in
With popcorn in a bowl, and maybe a coke
As the evening's entertainment was about to begin.
Over on the table sat a big brown box
And by turning the knob we were swept inside
To the adventures and journeys of make-believe
Where fun, excitement and thrills reside.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we are now .
. .

"The story you are about to hear is
true.
Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent."

We traveled down the streets of disorder
and crime
But knew Joe Friday was there on the scene.
All he wanted was, "Just the facts, Ma'am"
As he questioned the witness in his daily routine.
"DRAGNET"

"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

"The Shadow knoooows . . . . ha-ha-ha-ha!"
The weed of crime bears bitter fruit
And crime does not
pay.
Aiding the forces of law and order
The Shadow saves the day!

"And now, the makers of Maxwell
House Coffee (good to the last drop!), bring you
"Burns and Allen"
George: "Gracie, what day is it today?"
Gracie: "Well, I don't know."
George: "You can find out if you look at that paper on
your desk."
Gracie: "Oh, George, that doesn't help. It's yesterday's
paper!"

Burns and Allen
"Love Nest"
He played the straight man, she got the
laughs
She was probably the original "dumb blonde"
But together they made a wonderful team
And side by side they formed a beautiful bond.
George: "Say 'Goodnight', Gracie."
Gracie: "Goodnight, Gracie!"

Fibber: "Where's the phone book?"
Molly: "Up in the closet."
Fibber: "OK, I'll . . . . .
CRASH!
I 'gotta straighten out this closet one of these days!"

"Fibber McGee and Molly"
Molly: "Heavenly days, just look at
you. I never saw you
so grimy!"
Fibber: "What's a ton of soil to a son of toil? That's
what I always say.
Do you get that, Molly . . . a ton of soil to a son of toil?
Molly: "Tain't funny, McGee!"

Now we go back to the wild, wild west
Where law and order is a badge and a gun
Posses gather with train robbers to catch
Before the heroes ride off towards the setting sun.

"Who was that masked man?"
"Why, don't you know?"

"That's the
Lone Ranger"
"Hi-Yo Silver, away!"

To the good 'ole days before
TV
I offer a grand salute
When our imagination took us deep inside
The big brown box full of tubes.
To the days of old with
adventures inside
Without graphic violence and visual crime
A chance to enter a childlike world
In a more naive and innocent time.
