Perhaps love is like a resting place
A shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort
It is there to keep you warm
In those times of trouble
When you are most alone
The memory of love will bring you home

Perhaps love is like a window
Perhaps an open door
It invites you to come closer
It wants to show you more
And even if you lose yourself
And don't know what to do
The memory of love will see you through

Love to some is like a cloud
To some as strong as steel
For some a way of living
For some a way to feel
And some say love is holding on
Some say letting go
Some say love is everything
Some say they don't know

Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of pain
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Or thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
If all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

And some say love is holding on
Some say letting go
Some say love is everything
And some say they don't know

Perhaps love is like the mountain
Full of conflict, full of pain
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Or thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

"Perhaps Love"
Written and recorded by John Denver in 1982

John Denver was born Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr. on December 31, 1943.  He later changed his last name to Denver, his favorite state when it was decided Deutschendorf wouldn't fit on a marquee. At the age of 12 he received a guitar from his grandmother and taught himself how to play.  He played in local clubs when he was in college and in 1965 he joined the "Chad Mitchell Trio", later named the "Mitchell Trio".  In 1969 he left the band to pursue a solo career.

He married Annie Martell in 1967, and wrote and recorded "Annie's Song" in 1974 professing his love . . .

You fill up my senses
like a night in a forest
like mountains in springtime
like a walk in the rain
like a storm in the desert
like a sleepy blue ocean
you fill up my senses
come fill me again

Come let me love you
let me give my life to you
let me drown in your laughter
let me die in your arms
let me lay down beside you
let me always be with you
come let me love you
come love me again

The marriage lasted until 1982.  He married Cassandra Delaney in 1988 and they divorced in 1993.  The songs he is most noted for are "Take Me Home Country Roads" and "Rocky Mountain High", which was declared Colorado's state song in 2007.

An experienced pilot, John Denver was killed in 1997 when the small aircraft he was flying crashed off the California coast.  It is believed he was trying to switch to a second fuel tank when the first tank ran out of fuel.

Besides being a gifted singing artist, John Denver was a talented songwriter who wrote beautiful words that were always 'words from his heart'.

The music playing is a condensed version of "Perhaps Love", and is for entertainment, educational and evaluation purposes only. Titles have full copyright by their respective artists and record companies. Please show your support for the artists who gave us this great music by purchasing their CDs.

If you are interested in purchasing a full version of "Perhaps Love" and "Annie's Song" by John Denver, I have provided a link below to Amazon.com. They sell both new and used CDs. I have purchased many used CDs for my web pages and have never had a problem. Amazon also sells MP3 downloads in several categories with single songs ranging from 89 to 99 cents.

Thank you
