Only love can break a heart
Only love can mend it again

Last night I hurt you, but darling remember this
Only love can break a heart, only love can mend it again
You know I'm sorry, Ill prove it with just one kiss
Only love can break a heart, only love can mend it again.

Give me a chance to make up for the harm I've done
Try to forgive me and lets keep the two of us one.

Please let me hold you and love you for always and always
Only love can break a heart, only love can mend it again
Only love can break a heart, only love can mend it again.

I created this page for three reasons.  The first reason is because Gene Pitney was one of my very favorite singing artist from the early 60s.  He had a very distinctive and soulful voice.  The second reason is because we shared the same birthday, February 17th, and the third reason is because of the whistling in this song while whistling almost seems to be an art from the past.

When I say whistling, I am not talking about the two-finger loud whistle as in whistling for a cab, or whistling for your dog.  What I am talking about is whistling a melody or a song through the pucker of your lips.  Besides this song by Gene Pitney, I can only remember a few other songs that contain whistling, such as "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay" by Otis Redding and "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin.  There were also a few movies that included some whistling, such as "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly" and "The Shawshank Redemption".

In doing my research for this page, I found the Milt Briggs website.  He is a member of the Whistler's Hall Of Fame (I didn't know there was a Whistler's Hall Of Fame!) and an international grand champion.  You can read about Milt Briggs and listen to samples of his whistling by visiting the following link:  Milton Briggs.

Since this page was published, someone sent me a website which includes several whistlers from the past plus some whistlers of today.  One of whistlers listed is, Maurice (Muzzy) Marcellino, the whistler in the movie "The High and The Mighty" starring John Wayne.  This is the link to the site:  The Online Guide To Whistling.  It's a very informative website with several whistling samples.
