This beautiful song reminds me of the many times I had put off today
the things I saved for tomorrow.
But when tomorrow came, my day was full
so of the following day I had to borrow.
When I was young, there were
so many things I said I would do when I got
older. Well, that older day has come and
now I'm wishing I had done some of those same things
when I was younger. It is so easy to get
caught up into putting things off for
another time, another day or another
tomorrow. The problem with this is that
our tomorrows get so busy and so full that we
are constantly moving things into the next
tomorrow, and eventually we run out of
tomorrows.
Not that we are
necessarily going to die tomorrow, although
that could happen, but rather that we don't
take the time to enjoy the things that will
only be available at the time. A good
example is that I wish I had spent more time
playing with my children when they were
young. At that time, it was more important
that the house was
immaculate and everything was put away in it's
proper place (as though a little dust or a
small mess
were important!). Today, and to their
credit, instead of playing with my children,
I am watching my children play with their
children the way I didn't have the time to
do. I am seeing what I missed because
it was always something I would do
tomorrow. And now those tomorrows of playing with my
children are all gone.
Each new day is a
bright and beautiful day, and we should all
do everything we can to enjoy the day today.
Read a book because tomorrow that book may
be out of print. Walk in a park -
tomorrow it may be a parking lot. Take
that trip you always wanted to take, visit
your family, walk by the ocean, hike in
the woods, or do whatever you've always
dreamed of doing, and do it today! For you younger
ones who still have young children,
play with your children today - you will never regret it. Don't
wait for the new world in the morning . . .
the new world in the morning takes so long,
and sometimes it never comes.
