When "Life-As-We-Knew-It" Changes

We all seem to be creatures of habit
And we want life to stay just the same
But every now and then life throws us a curve
And our life-as-we-knew-it has changed.

As these changes come about and stress enters in
We have to adjust, modify and transform
Our daily lives; the activities we shared
While our life-as-we-knew-it conforms.

It may take time for the change to set in
As we suffer our loss and familiar routine
But eventually we'll walk a new path of living
As our life-as-we-know-it-now begins.

Life-as-we-knew-it can change for many different reasons. It could a job loss, a divorce, a death of a loved one, or maybe a conflict between family or friends.  Some of these changes come about as a result of decisions we have consciously made or perhaps through a judgment error.  Other life-as-we-knew-it transitions are the result of changes being forced upon us by others, and sometimes even by God.

The life-as-we-knew-it changes that are forced upon us, leaving us powerless and unable to do anything about it, are probably the hardest changes to endure.  We know that time heals all wounds, but until we get past that waiting period  we have to work through the heartache and pain until we can eventually recognize our loss and come to terms with the void.

Once we have passed that point, it is then time to move forward; to change our habits, begin new activities, and walk along the new path of life-as-we-know-it-now.  If we look carefully, we can see this new life as an opportunity to seek out new adventures; to remember the good from the past, discard the pain and sorrow, and to accept and nurture the blessings that still surround us. Soon our life will become life-as-we-know-it-now and we can experience all that this new life has to offer because we made it through the rain.

"I Made It Through The Rain"
Performed by Barry Manilow

We dreamers have our ways
Of facing rainy days
And somehow we survive.

We keep the feelings warm
Protect them from the storm
Until our time arrives.

Then one day the sun appears
And we come shining through those lonely years.

I made it through the rain
I kept my world protected
I made it through the rain
I kept my point of view.

I made it through the rain
And found myself respected
By the others who got rained on too
And made it through.

When friends are hard to find
And life seems so unkind
Sometimes you feel so afraid
Just aim beyond the clouds, and rise above the crowds
And start your own parade.

'Cause when I chased my fears away
That's when I knew that I could finally say.

I made it through the rain
I kept my world protected
I made it through the rain
I kept my point of view.

I made it through the rain
And found myself respected
By the others who got rained on too
And made it through.
