I dreamed I was there in hillbilly heaven
Oh, what a beautiful sight

Last night I dreamed I went to hillbilly heaven. And you know who greeted me at the gate? The ole cowboy-philosopher himself, Will Rogers. He said to me, he said

Will Rogers
1879-1935

"Tex, the Big Boss of the riders up here has asked me to kinda show you around. Right over yonder is a couple of your 'ole compadres." My, was I glad to see them, Carson Robison and the Mississippi blue yodeler Jimmie Rodgers.

He introduced me to Wiley Post, and he showed me the Hall of Fame with all the gold guitars and fiddles hanging on the walls.

Then he said, "Tex, step over this way, there are two more of your friends I know you'll want to see, they're waiting for you." There they were, standing side by side and smiling at me - Hank Williams and Johnny Horton.

I met all the stars in hillbilly heaven
Oh, what a star-studded night

Then I asked him who else he expected within the next, uh, say a hundred years? He handed me a large book covered with star dust. Will called it the Big Tally Book. In it were many names and each name was branded in pure gold. I began to read some of them as I turned the pages: Red Foley, Ernest Tubb, Gene Autry, Roy Acuff, Eddy Arnold, Tennessee Ernie, Eddie Dean, Andy Griffith, Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter . . . . .

. . . Tex Ritter?
Oh, well, that's when I woke up, and I'm sorry I did, because . . .

"I Dreamed Of A Hillbilly Heaven"
Recorded by Tex Ritter in 1961
Words & Music by Eddie Dean & Hal Sothern

Tex Ritter fulfilled his dream in 1974, joining his compadres in Hillbilly Heaven.  Several others have since joined him.  Tex Ritter was born Woodward Maurice Ritter in Panola County, Texas.  He loved western music, and while studying for a law degree at the University of Texas, he had his own weekly radio program singing cowboy songs on KPRC in Houston.

He moved to Nashville in 1965 and co-hosted a late night country music radio show with Ralph Emery.  It was also during that time that he was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry.

The music playing is a condensed version of "Hillbilly Heaven", and is for entertainment, educational and evaluation purposes only. Titles have full copyright by their respective artists and record companies. Please show your support for the artists who gave us this great music by purchasing their CDs.

If you are interested in purchasing a full version of "I Dreamed Of A Hillbilly Heaven" by Tex Ritter, I have provided a link below to Amazon.com. They sell both new and used CDs. I have purchased many used CDs for my web pages and have never had a problem. Amazon also sells MP3 downloads in several categories with single songs priced from 89 to 99 cents.

Thank you!
