When this song was written, Linda Creed was battling breast cancer, and the lyrics of the song were a reflection of her coping with the disease as a young mother. Creed died, at the age of 37 in 1986 shortly before it became a #1 hit for Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston has said of all the songs she recorded, this was her favorite.
