As we entered the 40's with dance and song
The big bands and their music followed along
Glenn Miller and his trombone made us feel good
Especially when the orchestra played "In The Mood".
Dick Haymes with his velvet baritone voice
Sang "Laura" as his romantic song choice.
Harry James's trumpet had no boundary
When he played the beautiful, "Sentimental
Journey".
Singing "Don't Fence Me In", and doing his best
Bing Crosby reminded us of the old west
Then looking up to the sky, a dark starry blue
He told his lady fair, the "Moonlight
Becomes You".
Young Frank Sinatra came upon the scene
Singing the song "Fools Rush In"
Then tipped his hat and said, "Adieu"
And turned and said, "I'll
Be Seeing You"
"Don't Get Around Much
Anymore", they said
But before long the news was spread
The Ink Spots were no longer unknown
And in their own style sang "To Each His Own"
The Andrews Sisters did more than their share
Entertaining the troops while bombs burst in the air
"Don't Sit Under the Apple
Tree" was the message they
told
While the "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"
played loud and bold.
Sweet Deanna Durbin warbled a tune,
I'll love you "Always" and
please come home soon.
Jo Stafford sang, "Some Enchanted
Evening",
I'll never let you go.
Because I love you and miss you so.
This medley of songs from the 40's is done
I hope you had some laughs and fun
We'll let Johnny Mercer have the last hurrah
With a favorite song, "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah"!
