Tempted and tried, we're oft made to wonder
Why it should be thus all the day long
While there are others living about us
Never molested though in the wrong.
When death has come and taken our loved ones
It leaves our home so lonely and drear
Then do we wonder why others prosper
Living so wicked year after year.
Farther along we'll know all about it
Farther along we'll understand why
Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine
We'll understand it all by and by.
Faithful till death said our loving Master
A few more days to labor and wait
Toils of the road will then seem as nothing
As we sweep through the beautiful gate.
Farther along we'll know all about it
Farther along we'll understand why
Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine
We'll understand it all by and by.
Yes, we'll understand it all by and by.

In trying to understand this terrible
disaster that took tens of thousands lives, so many questions have risen
about our God and our faith. Where was God when this happened? Did God
cause this disaster? Did God allow this to happen because the world is
so divided and deep in sin? Is this God's way of humbling us . . . to
make us reach out to others? Why did God allow this to happen?
Well, I certainly don't have the answers
to these questions. There are many religions and many faiths in this
world, and each one of them seems to be trying to explain or justify the
reason for this disaster. But, in the end, I do not believe there is
an answer right now.
Countries have been devastated, families
have been torn apart, and small children who never had a chance at life are
now gone, and the only thing I can say is "I don't know
why." And the only thing I can do now is to offer my support with
prayers and donations.
The song above "Farther Along"
is a gospel song written in 1937 by J. R. Baxter and W. B. Stevens. In
writing the song, they were also asking the question "why", but at
the same time they tell us that some day we we'll know, and "Farther
Along" we'll understand why. I believe this is when we will all
know why.
