I know I really love you
And I know I really care
But I don't know how to tell you
Although my love is there.

And I know they've come out wrong
But the words buried within my heart

But the feelings there are deep and strong

I cannot seem to say

When I failed to let you know
Just how much I cherish you

I have watched you turn away
And now I cannot reach you
With the words I cannot say.

Our lives have grown apart
Our love is part of the past
The love we shared when we were young
Is a love that didn't last.

And unless I find the magic key
To open this door up wide
All the love I have for you
Is buried deep inside.

I wrote the poem above after talking with a friend about his ex-wife. He was telling me how much he cared about her and how difficult it was for him to say the words that were so deeply buried inside. After explaining to me that he had been a man who could never freely express his inner feelings, I was very touched by the words he was saying. Later that evening when I was alone, the words to this poem flowed onto the paper as I recalled his words.
