An
American Hero
Joseph
C. Thibodeaux III
Joseph
C. Thibodeaux III was a
member of the U.S. Army,
HHC, 1-27th Infantry, 25th Infantry
Division. He was
stationed at Schofield
Barracks. His
hometown was Lafayette,
Louisiana. On
September 1, 2004, his
patrol came under enemy
attack in Hawijah,
Iraq. At the age
of 24 years, Joseph was
fatally wounded as a
result of the
attack. He had
just re-enlisted a few
weeks before he died.
When Joe had come home
on leave, he talked
about the flags he saw
when people were
cheering for him and
holding them high.
He said it encouraged
him and the other guys
to do what they do best
- protect this
country. His
mother says, "It is
so important that we
keep the flag's flying
no matter what is
happening over
there. Keep them
flying!"
Joe
had a natural talent for
shooting, even though
the first time he loaded
a 9mm gun, he put the
bullets in
backward.
"But the first time
he shot at a target, he
hit a bull's-eye,"
said his dad, Joseph C.
Thibodeaux III.
His father continues,
"He was such a good
marksman that he hoped
to go to the
Olympics. He was
also going to teach
other sharpshooters, but
those orders were put on
hold after the war
began."
Joe's
parents are Joseph C.
and Rebecca Thibodeaux,
and his very
"special"
friend, Cara Reeves
writes the following:
"Joe
was a kind, loving and
caring person who
always thought of everyone. He was
always thought of as a
"kind hearted
soul." He
will be remembered in
our hearts. We
love and miss you
dearly, Joe. You
always made me smile
and I will never
forget you. We
will meet again
someday, and I will
always keep the flags
flying here for
you. You are my
hero - thanks for
every thing you did in
my life."
Love,
Cara

"Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow"
Recorded by Trace Atkins

"A few days before Joe died and left to go on that mission, he sent me a
song called "Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow" by Trace Adkins. It's
like he knew this was going to happen and when he sent it he told me that he
would always be there for me and that would be his song to me. This song
means more to me than anything in this whole world."
Cara Reeves

"Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow"
Hold me like there’s no next time
Like it’s the last time you’ll have the chance to
Show me how much you want me
Like I’m the only thing that matters
No one knows when the world’s gonna end
So let’s make love like we never will again
Cause if the sun never rises
I wanna go down in flames
I want the last thing I hear to be you whispering my name
If every moment together is time that we borrow
Then hold me tight and love me like there’s no tomorrow
I hope we live forever
And that day will never come
But darling I know if it ever happens
I couldn’t imagine not being in your arms
There’s so much we take for granted in life
So love me baby like we’re running out of time
If the sun never rises
I wanna go down in flames
I want the last thing I hear to be you whispering my name
If every moment together is time that we borrow
Then hold me tight and love me like there’s no tomorrow
