"A Lost Child"

Do you know where my child can be?
I know he's always looking for me
I have not seen him for many a year
I have not been there to wipe his tear.
I did not know just how sad I would be
Without my beautiful child with me.

I hope he understands and knows
How lost and frightened I was back then
And could not raise him as my own.
So I left him there to have a good home
With parents to guide him on his way
Because I could not - and had to say
Bless him, Father, 'till I see him again.

It has been oh, so many years
And I have shed a thousand tears
Just thinking who he is and what does he do
And wondering if he would know me too.
If we were to meet again this day
What, oh what, could or would I say?
To my beautiful child of long ago.

"Mommy's Heart"

Teacher Debbie Moon's first graders were discussing a picture of a family. One little boy in the picture had a different color hair than the other family members. One child suggested that he was adopted and a little girl said, "I know all about adoptions because I was adopted." "What does it mean to be adopted?" asked another child. "It means," said the little girl, "that you grew in your mommy's heart instead of her tummy."

"Mommy Forgot"

A little boy was talking with his friends about his brother and sister, but told them he was the only one adopted. His friends asked him if his mother treated him the same as his brother and sister. The little boy said, "You know what? My mommy said she doesn't remember which one of us was adopted, so I haven't told her."

To the Birth Mother

"A Prayer For You"

Tonight I said a prayer for you
I thanked God for the choice you made
I can only imagine the grief you felt
And how heavy the decision weighed.

You carried this child beneath your heart
Kept her warm and safe from harm
And for personal reasons all your own
You placed her in my waiting arms.

Your little girl will always know
Of the sacrifice you made
Which gave to me a special gift
This small child for which I prayed.

And in my thankful prayers at night
I always ask of God above
To bless your life with peace and joy
And to bless your life with love.

The first poem was written by my friend Shirlene, who has three adopted children; all adults now. Of the three, two have located their birth mothers, and the third does not want to know. Shirlene has supported her children in their search, and wrote the poem from the point of view of her son's birth mother.

There are many reasons why a mother would choose to give her baby up for adoption, and it is not our place to judge them or their reasons.  We can only be thankful they did choose adoption over alternative solutions since there are so many childless couples who pray for a child of their own.  In light of this, I dedicate this page to all birth mothers who chose adoption, to all adoptive children who found very special parents, and to all adoptive parents whose prayers have been answered.

"Mother's Prayer"
Recorded by Sandi Patti

I pray you'll be my eyes
And watch her where she goes
And help her to be wise
Help me to let go

Every mother's prayer
Every child knows
Lead her to a place
Guide her with your grace
To a place where she'll be safe

I pray she finds your light
And holds it in her heart
As darkness falls each night
Remind her where you are

Every mother's prayer
Every child knows
Need to find a place
Guide her with your grace
Give her faith so she'll be safe

Lead her to a place
Guide her with your grace
To a place where she'll be safe

Peace, I wish you peace
When comfort and rest are all that you need
For through it all, my child, there He will be
I wish you peace

Hope, I wish you hope
When darkness hides the light in your soul
Beyond it all my child, there He will go
I wish you hope

Love will never fail you, love will never leave
Though I'm trusting in Jesus for you and me

Faith, I wish you faith when waves of doubt take you away
I will believe for you, you'll make a way
I wish you faith

Love will never fail you, love will never leave
Though I'm trusting in Jesus for you and me

Peace, hope, faith, love
I wish you peace, I wish you peace

This is my prayer for you
